  • We must set and achieve the goal of making Arizona the number one state in terms of education in the country.  There are so many potential opportunities that I can’t even begin to get specific here, but I will say that competition invariably produce results.  Our rate of return on the dollars spent verses the quality of the education we are providing the children of Arizona is unacceptable. Money spent is not the only answer.
  • We have to recognize the need to create the best conditions for business in the United States.  We have to come out with programs that counteract all of the repressive Federal Government regulations and taxes.  We are in competition with not only the other forty-nine states, but with the rest of the world and we are woefully behind.
  • We must secure our border.  In all candor, I tire of listening to this topic.  If the Federal Government chooses to be derelict in their duty then so be it, we will deal with it on a different front, but we cannot continue to use it as an excuse to be derelict of ours.  The stakes are too great!  The truth is border security and immigration reform are two distinct issues and should not be confused.   Only when our borders are secure can we adequately address undocumented immigration.
  • We have to become more active in our own communities taking care of each other, so that people do not feel that their only option in times of personal distress is the government.  I am already talking with various organizations to pool and focus their resources to do things within LD 22 such as set up multiple food stores that will provide the same services as food stamps, under similar requirements.  Over time, private programs like this will begin to eliminate the need of the government to provide what are real, necessary services, but services that the government is neither properly equipped nor constitutionally permitted to perform.
  • We need a comprehensive study of Federal Expenditures to determine the constitutionality of each and every one as laid out in Article I, Section 8 of the United States Constitution.  Once that report is complete, we must exert our Tenth Amendment rights.  I understand the magnitude of this and that there have been challenges before, but never before has our Federal Government been so derelict in its duty, placing burdens of debts upon our grandchildren's' grandchildren. The most recent Federal budget released will triple the Federal deficit in the next ten years and by the end of this decade we will be paying $800 billion in interest!  We must use the authority granted to the state by the United States Constitution to remove the burden that is holding back the citizens of Arizona.
  • Abortion is unacceptable unless it is an instance of rape, incest, or the life of the mother.  A state that does not defend the most innocent is not a state in which I wish to live.
  • We need a review of the Arizona Revised Statutes removing those that take governance to the level of micromanagement.  If you don't believe me please visit http://www.azleg.state.az.us/ArizonaRevisedStatutes.asp , our Legislature has proposed just under 1100 bills in this session alone, over 900 by Republicans.  My success at the Capitol will be based on how many statutes I can get removed as opposed to how many I can add.
  • We must address the “Voter Protection” act.  We have a representative republic and not a direct democracy for a reason.  It is up to the duly elected representatives to review revenue and set a budget to match.  It is simply a practical issue that 6 million Arizonans cannot possibly comprehend the intricacies of a multibillion dollar budget, that is the job of the legislature and if they are not doing said job effectively, the people have the right to elect someone else.
  • We need to remove the state income tax and replace it with a flat sales tax.  This will base what you pay on what you spend as opposed to what you make, thus encouraging hard work.
  • On all of the above, we must be proactive as opposed to reactive, offensive verses defensive.  We must stop allowing our opposition to frame each important argument of our day.
